Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring the 16-year-old midfielder to the club in the summer but will have to fend off competition from Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham, who has made 32 appearances in the Championship this season, was at United’s Carrington training base on Monday, accompanied by his parents. Sources have told ESPN that Birmingham have given clubs at home and abroad permission to speak the midfielder ahead of a potential move away from St Andrews at the end of the season. Solskjaer sees Bellingham as a first-team signing if they can secure his signature.

United were willing to sign the teenager in January and loan him back to Birmingham until the end of the campaign but could not agree a fee. Birmingham rate the teenager at around £30 million and are keen to receive a large chunk up front in guaranteed cash.
