Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is set to miss his side’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Chelsea after suffering a left tibia injury on Tuesday.
Lewandowski rounded out the scoring as Bayern thumped Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg, but the Poland international is unlikely to feature when the teams meet again on March 18. Bayern tweeted that he will miss up to four weeks of action as a result of the injury.
Lewandowski tapped in a cross from Alphonso Davies on Tuesday after former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry netted a brace to leave Chelsea with an extremely difficult second leg.
Lewandowski will likely miss Bundesliga clashes with Hoffenheim, Schalke, Augsburg and Union Berlin before the home fixture against Chelsea, with the league match against Eintracht Frankfurt taking place around his expected return date.
The striker, who has 39 goals in 33 games in all competitions this term, is the leading scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 25 goals. He is chasing Gerd Muller’s all-time record of 40 goals in the competition in a single term.
Bayern are top of the Bundesliga table on 49 points, one ahead of RB Leipzig and four ahead of third-placed Borussia Dortmund.
