Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres has played down speculation that he will leave to join Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The Sweden international is a reported target of several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and United.

With former Sporting boss Rúben Amorim starting work at Old Trafford following his appointment on Nov. 1, there has been speculation that Gyökeres would soon follow the manager to the Premier League club.

Asked about the potential of a move to United, Gyökeres told Fotbollskanalen: “It’s not something I think about, nor something I care about. These are rumours, nothing concrete. Of course I want to finish the season at Sporting, I enjoy my time there. I don’t feel stressed about making a change in the future. We’ll see when the time comes.”

Gyökeres, 26, is in his second season at Sporting and his contract is set to expire in June 2028.

Amorim, who signed a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, has indicated that he would not sign any Sporting players in January.

Gyökeres played down reports of an imminent reunion with Amorim.

“He [Amorim] probably already has strikers there,” Gyokeres said.. “It’s very sad that he left [Sporting], but of course we understand the decision. He meant a lot to me, as he gave me an opportunity and helped me evolve a lot.

“Now we are looking forward to working with the new coach [João Pereira].”

Gyokeres scored a league-high 29 goals to help Sporting win the Primeira Liga title last season. The former Coventry City forward has already netted 23 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for this campaign, including a hat trick in a 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City on Nov. 5.
