With major leagues suspended across Europe, a variety of online tournaments featuring some of the game’s biggest names have been set up.
And in Sunday’s ePremier League Invitational final, Wolves’ Jota claimed victory in a second match with a golden goal after he and Alexander-Arnold could not be separated.
Georginio Wijnaldum nodded Liverpool into the lead in first half stoppage time in the first match before Adama Traore smashed in an equaliser on 75 minutes following a fine flowing move.
With no winner in normal time, it went to a second match with the golden goal rule — the next to score wins the game — and Jota netted in the second half to take the victory.
On an eventful afternoon of digital action, Alexander-Arnold had earlier booked his place in the final of the tournament following a thrilling 3-2 win over Raheem Sterling and Manchester City.
Sterling’s City side had raced into a 2-0 lead at Anfield with two goals from Sergio Aguero and the former Liverpool forward looked set to seal his place in the grand final.
But Alexander-Arnold came storming back into the match with goals from Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson to make it 2-2, before Mohamed Salah netted in front of the Kop end to seal victory.
Jota sealed his place in the final courtesy of a 4-1 win over Burnley and Dwight McNeill, with Adama Traore in inspired form.
The competition kicked off on April 21 with an array of Premier League players going head-to-head in the knockout FIFA 20 tournament. The prize fund will all be donated to the #PlayersTogether initiative, which was created by Premier League players as a collective way of generating funds for the NHS.
