With just two more days of the January transfer window remaining, David Amoyal evaluates the hottest rumours from around the world of football.

With Edinson Cavani potentially leaving for Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain don’t want to be caught unprepared and have begun to look for potential replacements. The French giants have entered the race for Arsenal striker Aubameyang, whose future in North London is still uncertain as he is stalling on a contract renewal with his deal ending at the end of next season. The player’s entourage has reportedly already held contact with PSG, however it looks like the Gabon striker prefers the attentions of Barcelona, another club interested in signing him, especially in the summer.

Edinson Cavani to Atletico Madrid: 60%

The Uruguay international was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s squad for Sunday’s match against Lille and had already agreed terms with Atletico on a free transfer for the summer. However, the Colchoneros are optimistic they can add him to Diego Simeone’s squad this week after talks with PSG, and a deal could be reached for around €15m. Despite interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, Cavani is determined to join Atletico Madrid — the only question is when.

Can PSG convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to commit his future to the Parisian club?

Emre Can to Borussia Dortmund: 55%

The former Liverpool midfielder never fit with Maurizio Sarri and, after being excluded from Juventus’ Champions League squad at the beginning of season, he didn’t travel for Sunday’s match against Napoli. Considering he was a free transfer, Juve can make a significant profit on Can, who is looking for more playing time to increase his chances of making Germany’s squad for Euro 2020. Dortmund are in negotiations with the Bianconeri over a deal for around €25m, but they will need Can to spread out his significant salary over a longer contract.

In addition to pursuing Steven Bergwijn, Tottenham have not given up on finding a striker to step in for Harry Kane as he recovers from his hamstring injury. The Poland striker is looking to play regularly before the Euros after losing his starting spot at AC Milan to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the super-sub role to Ante Rebic, but the Rossoneri are looking to sell him outright rather than loan him and do not appear willing to accept either Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela or Juan Foyth in exchange. Considering Spurs’ need is short-term in nature, it will be difficult for the negotiations to take off.

With PSG unwilling to meet the asking price for Paqueta and Juventus failing to agree to terms with Barcelona on a swap deal of Ivan Rakitic for Bernardeschi, there could be an opportunity for a last-minute swap deal to give the two players a fresh start, especially considering they fit in rather well with the formations employed by the two clubs’ managers. However, Milan will likely be rather cautious after their previous deals with Juventus involving Gonzalo Higuain, Leonardo Bonucci and Mattia Caldara backfired spectacularly.

The injury suffered by Luis Suarez forced Barcelona to dive back into the transfer market in search of a striker. The Blaugrana are looking for a player who could provide cover for the injured Uruguay international and hit the ground running in La Liga. One option under consideration is that of former Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder, now at Monaco, who has been linked with an eye-watering €80m move to Camp Nou. For their part, the Principality club are reluctant to lose arguably their best player in January and have made clear that they will sell the 29-year-old only for a nine-figure sum.

The strong performances of the young centre-back at RB Leipzig haven’t gone unnoticed, as Bayern Munich have started knocking at his agent’s door this month. With his contract due to expire in June 2021, the France U21 international seems unwilling to commit by signing an extension. Leipzig are adamant that they will not sell the player to their main competitor for the Bundesliga title this season, while there will be no shortage of suitors for the centre-back in the summer.

The Belgium winger has made no secret of his desire to leave China and return to Europe after almost two years away. A club that could be willing to facilitate such a move is Crystal Palace, as coach Roy Hodgson is looking for new additions up front. The English side have reportedly opened talks with Dalian Yifang over a loan deal, however the player’s significant wages could be a particularly high hurdle to overcome.

Kurzawa has an expiring contract as well as significant interest from Arsenal over a free transfer this summer, but rather than heading to Premier League next season, he could join the Serie A champions this week. Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Leonardo has courted De Sciglio in the past and has a good relationship with his counterpart at Juventus. The two clubs could make a profit by swapping the two players as separate financial transactions that would be rather appealing, especially to PSG as they risk losing Kurzawa for nothing.

The Hammers are looking for reinforcements in their efforts to avoid relegation and have targeted the Uruguay midfielder, who is having a breakout season in Serie A. While Cagliari will almost certainly have to sell Nandez in the summer, in light of a recent dispute with his agent on commissions owed and the player’s image rights, they turned down West Ham’s offer last week.
