Sevilla defeated Real Betis 2-0 in La Liga’s return to action after a nearly three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The result at the empty Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium strengthened the hosts’ hold on third place in the league table, while city rivals Betis remained in 12th.

Sevilla broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 56th minute when Lucas Ocampos slotted home after Marc Bartra was booked for a hard foul in the box.

They doubled the lead six minutes later through a Fernando header from close range — the midfielder guiding past Betis keeper Joel Robles after an Ocampos corner kick.

Sevilla will next face Levante in Valencia on Monday. Betis will host Granada that same day.
