Al Nassr are one of the Saudi Pro League clubs interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, a source has told ESPN.

Al Nassr, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo in December 2022, are looking to bolster their squad with a centre-back and an attacking midfielder, as well as a back-up goalkeeper and a young striker.

A source has told ESPN that Al Nassr believe Fernandes would be a good fit in midfield, but there is an acceptance it will be very difficult to land his signature.

Al Nassr are aware that United want to keep the Portugal international but there is a belief that a large enough offer could tempt the club to cash in.

United have money to spend this summer but, according to senior sources, finances remain “tight” because of Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules and the size of the budget for new additions will depend on some players leaving.

Fernandes, who is under contract until at least 2026, has sought assurances from United about their ambitions for the future following a disappointing campaign.

There will be no Champions League football next season and, eighth in the Premier League, there is a risk of missing out on European qualification altogether.

A source has told ESPN that Fernandes is not trying to force his way out, but at 29 years old, he is keen to be as successful as possible during the final years of his career.

United’s summer clear-out has already begun after Raphaël Varane announced on Tuesday that he will leave at the end of his contract in the summer. Anthony Martial‘s contract is also set to expire in June.

Christian Eriksen has a year left on his deal, but is available for transfer after playing a reduced role this season.

United will also consider realistic offers for a number of first-team players, including Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder is the second-highest earner and the club are keen to bring down their wage bill.
