The referee’s report claimed Bellingham had shown an “aggressive attitude” and repeatedly shouted “it’s a f—ing goal.”

Bellingham disputed referee Jesús Gil Manzano’s decision to blow the final whistle when he headed Brahim Díaz‘s cross into the net in the ninth minute of added time in what would have been Madrid’s winner.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti insisted after the game that Bellingham did not insult the referee.

“We were annoyed with Bellingham’s red card,” Ancelotti said.

“He didn’t say any insults. He said in English ‘it’s a f—ing goal,’ but he was just saying what we were all thinking. [The referee] allowed play to continue. I think he made a mistake. [Bellingham] was clear in what he said.

“He was quite vehement [in his reaction] but that’s normal, after what happened. It wasn’t an insult, not at all.”
